Get Your Home Extra Insulated

When it is extremely cold outside in the winter and scorching hot in the summer, you run the risk of having a house that is not comfortable to live in. If your home is not properly insulated or does not have enough insulation, then your home will get either extremely hot during the summer or bitter cold during the winter months causing you to hike our thermostat up or turn it way down which will cost you much more money.

To save on energy and therefore money, make sure your home is properly insulated so you can cut down on your need for a lot of heat or cold air. You can even insulate your pipes, so they don't get cold and work harder or freeze in the winter.
 

Change Your Air Filters

This is a fairly inexpensive thing to do but can help save you a lot of money in the end. Your air filter catches a lot of stuff in the air that goes through your heating and air systems which helps keep your system working as efficiently as possible. Keeping the air filters clean and changing them out every few months keeps the HVAC system in optimal shape and which in the end saves you energy and lowers your energy bill.
 

Lower Your Water Heater Temperature

Water heaters are huge appliances that we use every day to heat water in dishwashers, sinks, washing machines, showers, etc. It can really use a lot of energy in trying to sore warm water for all your needs. You can save some of your money by lowering the water temperature just a few degrees keeping it at roughly 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you go on vacation, you should also turn the water heater off, so it is not trying to keep warm water in reserves if you are not even there to use it!
 

Wash Clothes in Cold Water

If you are like most people or most families, you probably wash clothes several times a week if not a load once a day. You can make your home much more energy-efficient and save yourself money by washing your clothes in cold water and only in hot water for things that have to be extra sanitized. Cold water will still get your clothes clean and it won't cost as much money to do so!
